Claudia's "Repeat Offender" album features all star producers and musicians! - June 10, 2005
When I set out to record the songs that would comprise my debut album "Repeat Offender," I had no idea of the extraordinary caliber of producers and musicians I would be blessed to be working with. Through a series of 'coincidences' and 'persistence,' I was able to connect with two members of Alanis Morissette's incredible live and studio band, The Sexual Chocolate, who had played with Alanis during her blockbuster tour to support her hit album "Jagged Little Pill" and stayed with the lovely Alanis through the recording of her solo-produced album "Under Rug Swept". Gary Novak, one of the most sought-after drummers in the world, whose credits include superstars like Alanis and Chick Corea, created drum grooves for the snazzy, sexually provocative and crowd favorite track "Ooh La La". Working with Alani's keyboard programmer JJ at Glen Frey's private studio, the two created a dark and primitive drum and perussice track both hypnotic and erotic. Once a foundation for this song was achieved, Joel Shearer entered the scene to add his magical guitar instrumentations. Joel, currently of his well-travelled and toured band Pedestrian, and formerly a staple of Alanis' studio albums and live shows, added lush and layered guitar tracks to "Ooh La La" as well as the soon-to-be pop-rock classic "Another Shade of Blue (Country Girl Mix)." Joel was so enthused with the tracks that he even played bass on both tracks as well! Working with Joel was a blast because he always came to the studio well equipped - I mean he had like every guitar a girl could want to strum, every pedal, every amp, it was a sandbox of guitar desire!
On the production front, I was lucky enough to connect with the hip and edgy producer Steve 'Hip' Hopkins, who brought incredible flavor and energy to "Ooh La La," a biting pop edge to the original version of "Repeat Offender," and a timeless soul to the ballad "Another Shade of Blue." Steve was amazing because he nursed me through insecurities, coaxed amazing vocal performances out of me, and gave me control and reign to contribute to the production and recording side of things. In a nutshell, Steve totally rocks!
From the daily grind of Steve's studio above the Dresden Room in Los Feliz, I was next launched to the top of Sunset Plaza Drive to wor with superstar producer and mixer Dave Aron. Dave and I met after I approached him at a local music seminar and handed him my demo. He was totally chilling with his girl and was very polite when I interuppted him. Three weeks later, when I was working in the Big Apple, my cell rang and it was Dave, telling me that of the 50 cd's he had received at the seminar, mine was the one that jumped out. Dave wanted to get cracking on some tunes and suggested we record a couple from the demo, as well as some other songs from my prior demos. In between daily rehearsals for Snoop Dogg's summer tour, Dave and I worked day in and day out at his hilltop palace studio. Fabulous musicians like Bob Hartry and Melody Perry contributed their creativity to Dave and my creations. A stunning Nashville rapper, Lady Dolla, who was working with Dave during the summer, at my request, contributed an electrfying rap to the new version of "Repeat Offender" we were recording. Suddenly, the "Repeat Offender" EP was being recorded and born right be4 my eyes!
This EP was a albaor of love that spanned almost a year and a half of writing, recording, re-writing, recording again, live performing, inspirations and creative manifestation. It is my divine pleasure to share it with you and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it! Check out a preview of "Repeat Offender" at I-Tunes.com and at CDBaby.com now!
